Assessor - Property Change Tax Estimator
Disclosure
The purpose of this tool is to provide a “guesstimate” for the amount your property taxes may increase, due to changes in your property such as new construction, remodels, disqualifications, newly created land account (subdivisions), etc.
Due to limitations created by Oregon’s property tax system, the Assessor’s Office will not have values for these types of changes available until values are certified on the tax roll, just shortly before the tax statements are mailed. By using this tool, you will need to estimate the market value of your project to the best of your ability. You may wish to use the sales price, recent appraisal from financing, or cost of the project (knowing that cost does not always equal market value).
The factors needed to provide this estimate are tied to the property, so the account number is required. Providing the account number will return the changed property ratio and tax rate for the property from the last certified tax roll. If you do not know the six-digit account number it can be found on DIAL by searching the owner’s name or address, it can also be found on your tax statement.
The changed property ratio and tax rate are based on the last certified roll and change each year. Therefore, this tool will not take into account any new bonds, levies, or rate changes by taxing districts.
More information about the changed property ratio; a full list of tax rates and the breakdown of the rates are published each year in our Tax and Assessment Summary which can be found on the Deschutes County Assessor’s Website.
We hope you find this tool helpful, but remember it is only an estimate. It will not include any special assessments, exemptions, discounts, or prior year’s taxes.
